Fresh fruits and veggies

The great thing about visiting the Big Island is the amazingly fresh, locally grown fruits and veggies. If you visit the farmers market you will find locally grown corn, papaya, apple banana, mango, oranges and so much more! There is also locally grown flowers and handmade crafts. If you're lucky you will find a roadside vendor selling lychee, pickled mango, smoked fish and many other local treats. You should stop and try it!

Under Water Fun!

Something fun to do with young children in the water without getting wet.....submarine rides! It's fun, adventurous, safe and educational for all ages. There is so much underwater that you get to see during your submarine ride. The beautiful Hawaiian reef and the many creatures that make the ocean amazing. It gives you a different view that you wouldn't get to see even if you were snorkeling. A must do with your family while visiting the Big Island.

Dinning Out in Kona

A great place to dine while in Kona is Sam Choy's Kai Lanai. It offers a variety of local flavors for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The new location is amazing! It over looks the Kona Coast, located above the Keahou Shopping Center.

Sam Choy's menu has a little something for everyone. Our family favorite is the Noodle Mania w/Chicken. It is yummy! A noodle stir fry with fresh veggies and chicken served in a crispy tortilla shell. The fish is always delish. The kids like to eat either the teriyaki chicken or the keiki saimin.

Swimming in Kona with Keiki (Children)

There are endless beaches along the Kona Coast to enjoy with your family. Some are a little easier accessed than others. Our first beach suggestion is Hapuna Beach. Head north on Queen Kaahumanu Hwy for about 30 miles (from Kailua-Kona). The turn is clearly marked, just follow the signs. There is ample parking, paved/marked walkways, concession stand, restrooms and showers. If the waves are big then playing in the sand if always fun. If there is little surf then it's the ultimate, endless beach for a fun day in the sun. Pack your own shade (umbrellas/sunscreen) because it is HOT! Beautiful, smooth, white sand and clear blue water.....Hapuna Beach is our first pick of beaches to visit while on the Big Island.
